What is an IBAN?

IBAN stands for International Bank Account Number. The IBAN is made up of a code that identifies the country the account belongs to, the account holder’s bank and the account number itself. The code consists of alpha and numeric characters, and varies in length per country. It is used in Europe and some other countries, but the United States does not participate in it.
